Shofar for Shut-ins
In conjunction with the JCC, Bais Menachem sends out volunteers on Rosh Hashana day to hospitals, nursing homes, and residences for the elderly and invalid to help them perform that mitzvah of hearing the sound of the shofar.
Kapparos
Kapparos is a thousands year old tradition performed as a preparation for the holiest day - Yom Kippur. The Talmud states that we are to seek atonement before the fast of Yom Kippur by asking forgiveness of friends we may have slighted or offended, and by sincerely regretting our past misdeeds. As part of this atonement a white rooster for a man and white hen for a woman (or when not possible, fish or money) are taken and it and its value are given to a worthy charity.
