Special Shabbaton for Russian Speaking Jews at Bais Menachem

Several weeks ago, dozens of local Jews from the former Soviet Union were treated to a wonderful Shabbaton at Bais Menachem. Rabbi Pinny Levitin made arrangements for two members of the Toronto Russian-speaking Jewish community to spend Shabbos in Wilkes-Barre. On Friday afternoon the two men, originally from Minsk and Moscow, spent several hours paying house visits to dozens of Jews living in Wilkes-Barre, Kingston, and Edwardsville to bring them the warmth of yiddishkeit.

On Friday night the two guests Reb Dovid and Reb Mordechai, were joined by some of the younger Russian speaking families linving in our area, and the Shabbos afternoon meal was geared toward seniors. The Shabbaton was a true treat to an often overlooked segment of our community.

If you know of any Russian speaking Jews who would like to receive house visits or information about Jewish activities in the Wyoming Valley please contact Rabbi Pinny Levitin at 262-7708.
