Jewish Pride Celebrations In Honor Of Lag B'Omer
On Tuesday, May 12, several local celebrations took place for the Jewish holiday of Lag B'Omer. Bais Menachem students and staff, assembled floats of 4 foot tall mezuzahs, shabbos candles, replicas of tefillin, a charity box, menorah and even a model of the Bais Hamikdash, the Holy Temple.
At 12:00pm a parade consisting of the UHI student body, the JCC's Kinderlach children, and a number of parents joined the Bais Menachem family for a march from UHI to Kirby Park.
Highlights of the parade included: a live musical band of our students and staff performing on the open bed of a trailer and a number of motorcycle riders from the community who joined us in our celebration. Once arriving at the park a barbecue sponsored by UHI was held serving lunch to all the participants. This was followed by games and activities for the 100 children led by the very capable and energetic Avremi Rosenthal.
Thanks to all who made this event such a beautiful success. Special thanks to the Kingston Police Dept. for their assistance and commitment to the safety of all. At 4:00pm the parade continued on to the Temple Israel Hebrew School where the students had a chance to enjoy the live music and dancing, games, and enjoyed a special acrobatic performance by our talented young acrobats.
Special thanks to Rabbi Perlman for arranging this event as well as to all those who assisted in coordinating the parades and entertainment.
