7th Night of Chanukah on Public Square
Last Saturday, Bais Menachem was joined by Congressman Paul Kanjorski at Wilkes-Barre's Public Square for the 5th annual lighting of the Menorah on the 7th night of Chanukah. Representatives of many Jewish community organizations were on hand to participate in this Unite the Lights event dedicated to the memory of Rabbi Gabi and Rivka Holtzberg, HY"D and the Jews killed in the Mumbai Chabad House last month.
The Shamash (lead candle) was lit by the Congressman, followed by Rabbi Uri Perlman, Director of Bais Menachem, who recited the blessings and lit the first candle. The remainder of the candles were lit by Rabbi Nachman Bruce, Rabbi of Congregation Ohav Zedek; Atty. Richard Goldberg, past president of the JCC; Jeff Sirota representing the United Hebrew Institute; Atty. Allen Reishtein, treasurer of the Jewish Family Services; Rabbi Zvi Perlman, veteran Chabad Shliach of the Wyoming Valley; and Rabbi Pinny Levitin, teacher and director of community outreach at Bais Menachem.
Dozens of people attended the lighting, and music, dancing, and refreshments were enjoyed by all,
