Hundreds Attend Bais Menachem's Chanukah Events
One Tuesday, Dec. 4 Rabbi Pinny Levitin and the students of Bais Menachem brought the light of Chanukah to the holiday shoppers at the Wyoming Valley Mall. A 6 foot menorah was lit by an Israeli vendor who works at the mall. Many of the students dressed as traditional Chanukah characters and sang songs to the delight of shoppers.
On Saturday Dec. 8 a menorah lighting at Public Square in downtown Wilkes-Barre was held. State Representative Phyllis Mundy addressed the crowd of 65 people who braved the cold to bring spiritual warmth to the streets of Wilkes-Barre. Ms. Mundy thanked Rabbi Zvi Perlman for the honor of lighting the Shamash candle, an experience she said was a first for her.
Chanukah Wonderland at the JCC was held on Sunday, Dec. 9. Well over 200 men women and children attended this wonderful event. The participants enjoyed the Giant Dreidel House, baking Sufganiot (donuts), and learned how real pure olive oil is made. The highlight of the evening was a stage play about the story of Chanukah that was put on by the staff and students of Bais Menachem. From its conception to its execution, the student worked tirelessly to ensure the utmost enjoyable experience.
Many thanks to everyone at the JCC and Bais Menachem for making this true community event possible. To view pictures of this and other Chanukah event, please click here.
